In the fall of 2017, we had the chance to support one of our partner photographers, Shawn Jackson and his wife Maggie, of Photo Roatan, with their first ever children's photography camp on their home island of Roatan, Honduras. Shawn and Maggie run a successful photography business in Roatan and had the desire to get their larger community involved in the arts. 1) Please describe the organization or cause that you support
Shawn Jackson Gallery is a fine art photography gallery located on the Caribbean island of Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras. This program was our first Kids’ Photography Camp, a program for children ages 9-16 to learn photography. Students took part in a 3-week photo course, learning technical skills, shooting skills, and post production techniques. Finally, the students had the opportunity to present their work to their peers for peer review. Each student then chose their two favourite images to be printed by CG Pro Prints and displayed in a real photo gallery for the community to enjoy.
2) How did you get involved with this organization or cause, and does it hold a certain significance for you? If so, why?
My husband, Shawn Jackson is a professional underwater and topside photographer. Together we own a gallery of his work. We like to offer courses and workshops and decided that a program for children would be a fun addition to our courses. This was the the first of our kids’ camp workshops and we hope to do more in the future! I have a background in education so between the two of us, we were able to offer the students technical skills like photography basics and learning how to use their cameras before taking them into the field for shooting and then back to the classroom for post production work and learning how to edit their images.
Finally, after receiving the beautiful photos on canvas from CG Pro Prints, we taught them about hanging and hosting a gallery show. We hosted a real art show of their work at our gallery, invited their friends, family and the wider Roatan community to come enjoy.
3) How did our donation support the organization or cause?
The canvases CG Pro Prints donated were amazing! The students were so proud to see their work on canvas and to see them displayed in a real gallery. They took such pride in showing their final product to their families and friends. We had over 100 people attend the Art Show opening and people were very impressed. For our small island community, getting everyone involved in art events is something we take pride in. It was wonderful to see so many people from the community come out to support the kids and see their work.
4) How can readers support the organization or cause?

5) Any Additional Comments?
We would like to thank CG Pro Prints for their generous donation of of Canvas Wraps for our Kids’ Photography Camp program. The pieces were hung in Shawn Jackson Gallery for several weeks and the show was free and open to the public. The show opening saw over 100 guests, and the following weeks brought in probably about 100 more to view the pieces and support the arts and the involvement of children in the arts in our community!
