Canvas for a Cause: Make a Wish Quinceanera

We recently supported the fundraising efforts of Make a Wish, a non-profit organization that helps dreams come true for children diagnosed with critical illnesses. This donation began when Barbara Jacqueline, professional photographer and videographer, submitted an application to our Canvas for a Cause Program with a request to help with a donation to help young Brizzy, not expected to live past 14, celebrate her Quinceañera (15th Birthday).  It has been Brizzy's dream to have a traditional Quinceañera and we are so honored and happy we could be a part of helping this dream come true. The Framed Fine Art Print we provided helped to showcase Brizzy in a traditional Quinceañera gown for display on an easel at the event. Keep reading to learn what Barbara shared about the Make a Wish event, to see pictures from their Quinceañera, and to learn how you can get involved.

How did you get involved with this organization or cause, and does it hold a certain significance for you? If so, why?

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by Eli Agustin of the Make A Wish Greater Bay Area Chapter.  She came across my Quinceañera and photography and videography work online and sent me an email inquiry for a February wish to be granted for a young princess named Brizzy in Concord, California.

Working with nonprofit organizations that have causes like this especially for children, is something that I take to heart and am honored to participate in.

I’ve been fortunate enough to serve in the capacity of other philanthropic projects and I highly recommend this to anyone and everyone.  As a photographer it is my duty to be a part of my community, document life and tell the stories of those who need to be heard. In this particular case, I am humbled, overwhelmed, and honored to have been asked to partake in Brizy’s life changing Frozen Themed Quinceañera.

This event is not only a tradition in the Latin American culture, but it is a celebration of welcoming a young lady into womanhood and into society.  Despite any challenges, it is a milestone deserving by any young lady who embraces this tradition, and I’m proud to be a part of.

In this busy world with so many moving parts and so much to do, I highly encourage photographers and videographers alike, to step into giving back, if they haven’t already.  You can make a difference and changes lives as well, including your very own!

How did our donation support the organization or cause? Please be as specific as possible.

In the age of digital photography where digital files are in demand,  it is so easy to forget what’s important in a photograph, printing it!  I still get nostalgic at the thought of the old days. where photographer shot for prints. This is why I was so adamant when I switched from film to digital, my clients were educated that yes they often can have their digital files, but print orders are a requirement if they choose to work with me. It’s not about me at all, I want what’s best for my clients, nothing is better than holding a photograph in their hand or hanging a portrait in their  home!

Your generous Canvas for a Cause donation couldn’t have gone to a more deserving family, Brizy who was not expected to live past her 14th birthday is now celebrating her Quinceañera (15th Birthday!). Her fine art framed  portrait is a lovely sight and will be displayed at her event on an easel for all to see! It will be cherished for many generations to come and I am sure her family will be ever so surprised once we present it to them.  Thank you for making this wish come true for a family who otherwise might not have been able to afford such a luxury.

Additional comments

When I received an inquiry from Make A Wish  Greater Bay Area, I had no idea what was in store, however, I knew immediately that I was  totally “in” and could not wait to begin the process. Make A Wish is recognized nationwide, for their outstanding work serving all children of a life-threatening medical conditions.  Wishes inspire hope and by the help of many generous donors, sponsors and more, the organization has been successful in making many wishes come true.

Brizy’s wish was simple yet meaningful and profound, she wanted to celebrate her Quinceanera along with family and friends, and she did just that.  The event was kicked off with a grand reveal at the entrance of the ballroom where Brizy along with her family and her escorts, received a surprise unveiling, a beautiful Framed Fine Art Portrait donated by one of our favorite print partners, CGPro Prints.  The piece was a showstopper and little Brizy’s eyes and emotion spoke very loud and clear, as did her parents, siblings and friends.  This alone was a emotional and inspirational moment.

This princesses wish come true include a full day and evening of blessings, celebration and definitely a dance party!

Thank you CG Pro Prints for making a difference in the life of a child!
